About Me

Picture0028I am a student at Huddersfield University studying Contemporary Art and Illustration.
This blog is really to guide me through my journey in the first year of my course, helping me with my assessments and gaining peer views on my work.
I’m 21 years old, from Wakefield and studied Fine Art, Media, Psychology and Law at Pontefract New College.
I never felt college really suited me when I was attending, I struggled a lot with combining work with my time, as I have always had a job.
I felt just by doing one course I could concentrate on my further education into a specialism, proceeding onto my Fine Art Foundation BTEC diploma at Wakefield College, Thornes Campus; it was the best educational choice I had made and opened my eyes to illustration.
Throughout my education I have designed for a tattoo studio in Leeds, in my keeping of practice in drawing and commission, I thoroughly enjoyed that experience and my future ambition was initially to become a tattoo designer, although through the engagement of the course I attended last year, it really inspired me to try and do something different.
Always being interested in the psychological aspects of how minds interpret situations and objects, in an art’s perspective I always wanted to look deeper into a piece of art work and create a sense of meaning/narrative behind something.
When I was a child I was brought up in a childcare environment as my mother has always been a childminder, and working with children gained me a wider perspective of how people communicate visually in conjunction of their age.
This then guided me into children’s book illustration, and has been my passion for a while.

Hopefully this course will help me get there! 🙂
