– Assessment Criteria

a. Evidence that appropriate research informs the development of conceptual thinking, leading to appropriate outcomes.

Some definitions of research
– A critical and and comprehensive understanding of a particular area study
– A systematic investigation of a stated topic
– Scrutiny of data and information relating to a specific field of study
– Exploration and inquiry leading to clearly defined outcomes.

b. demonstrate an awareness of selectively in use of materials and processes, in order to communicate appropriately and effectively
c. Evidence of critical analysis, reflective practice and contextualisation

Self reflection, Contextualisation and Critical Analysis

1. Self Reflection – What do you want out of a degree?  what are your aims? what are your goals? how are you using the projects and resources to push things forwards? Shallow approach to learning.
how do you make what you aim to do more informed, intelligent, and better considered?

2. Contextualise – What are the characteristics, focus, the innovations of contemporary art or illustration? who’s doing what and where, an is it any good? Characteristics of contemporary and illustration. Where do they overlap? how are you contextualising what you do within a broader understanding of the discipline? begin to develop a broader understanding of the umbrella terms illustration and contemporary art. Think about them regionally, nationally and internationally, as well as historically and as contemporary disciplines. Gather more intelligence and putting your name out there. What is the overlap between these disciplines? where is the grey areas , where is the interesting areas that are not fully defined yet? identify other practitioners, companies and organisations involved in these disciplines. Attempt to define your place within these disciplines

3. Critical Analysis – who’s making what kind of work, about what subject matter.. is it any good? what ideas are you dealing with and how can you inform them?

Critical Questions
1. How has research informed your conceptual thinking?
show us examples of your research. Have you chosen to document your research process, how well has it worked?

2. How have you critically analysed and contextualised the idea of the Alter Ego?
reflect on your thinking process and outline the contexts you’re drawn on

3. How has your choice of materials and processes helped to communicate your idea?
reflect on the decisions you’ve made.
