Hailing from Montreal Quebec, tonight’s featured artist is none other than Jonathan Bergeron (AKA Johnny Crap). Working in a variety of different mediums, Jonathan has built up an arsenal of extremely well rendered paintings and illustrations that have been used for things such as gigposters, tee shirt designs and album artwork. His signature Calavera style skull is a re-occurring motif in which Jonathan often introduces to a number of pop culture icons such as The Mona Lisa, The Dude (The Big Lebowski) and Iron Man to name a few. He has shown his work at various galleries across the globe, most recently a solo exhibition at Yves LaRoche titled “Lueurs” in which he created a number of beautifully executed paintings and illustrations- including a 72” x 128” illustration on canvas entitled “La Route”. I think we can all agree that Jonathan will someday be in art history books.

This is the type of work I would be wanting to focus on with involvement to the new brief, I personally think this piece is outstanding in a manner of representing the narrative, and a contemporary curve to illustration.
Although the illustrator that conducted this composition was not situated in the age of what we are supposed to be researching, I thought by adding this, it would give me some perspective to be inspired to look into more artists in a similar style.
Our brief states that we have to find artwork from before we were born for the ‘Deconstruction the Grand Master’ project, although I am just starting my research; I am finding it sufficiently difficult to find a composition with a strong narrative in the style I would like.
